This web site is dedicated to modeling Indian Railways (IR). I have a free-lanced layout in HO scale with IR as a theme. My layout is located in Florida USA. The layout is free-form and does not follow any particular part of India but is loosely based on the main line from Delhi to Bombay. The period setting is in the late 1960's to 1970's. This line starts from the plains of Delhi and crosses the desert state of Rajasthan crossing over the Chambal River at Kota (Once upon a time full of the great Indian Crocodile 'Gharial' and good Tiger habitat). It finishes in the western port city of Bombay (now called Mumbai). The layout has a deep ravine, representing the Chambal ravines and crosses over two suspension bridges. The track design is mostly single line with portions are double line.
At both main cities it has turntables, loco repair facilities and yards. Most of the motive power is steam locomotives; a number of which have been kit-bashed to actual IR steam locomotives; other steam equipment is typical US and some European (UK and German) steam locomotives. I also own a few Diesel locomotives as well as couple of electric locomotives. Some of the locomotives are old colonial period classes which were still being used by IR in the 1960's on smaller feeder routes. Rolling stock has been modified to typical stock used in India, with a few artistic liberties.
Special thanks to Lloyd Pierce who built a number of Indian locomotives and rolling stock wagons and passenger bogies for me as well as typical Indian scenery details.
I am a collector and have a number on Non-Indian Locomotives which just catch my fancy, you will see them in the various pages.
